Our Farm's Story

Covered Bridge Gardens is located in the center of Ashtabula County. The 160 acres is owned and operated by Mick and Kay Prochko and their son Steve. The farm has been in the Prochko family for three generations. Today the farm produces over 45 acres of fresh market vegetables. Their produce is delivered to farmers markets across northeast Ohio. The farm also provides Consumer Supported Agriculture (CSA) memberships to over 300 families. This CSA program runs 16 weeks from late June to early October. More information on these memberships is available under CSA in the menu.

The farm's name comes from the striking red covered bridge spanning Mill Creek near the Netcher Road site. Visitors to the farm will pass through the bridge, constructed in 1998. It replaced a one lane cement structure. This bridge is number 16 of the 17 covered bridges in Ashtabula County. Check the calendar of events at www.VisitAshtabulaCounty.com for the dates for this year's Covered Bridge Festival held the second weekend in October.

The farm was originally purchased by Michael Prochko Sr. in 1936. This photo is of him and the next generation, Mick. His mother Frances has made his overalls to match his dad's.  In the background is the original two-story barn on the farm at that time. It was later replaced by the present structures pictured above.
